Ari Mens is a multi-disciplinary artist who explores the synergy between digital technology and traditional craft to discover new form. After his studies at Willem de Kooning he has been working as a creative director for a diverse range of creative agencies. As a creative with a background in science he has always been inspired by the crosssection of science and art. His personal work is research- and processdriven, experimenting with digital algorithms to reshape the physical world and handcraft to reshape the digital world like an open dialogue between the two. In his recent works he explores the floral expression found in algoritmic computations of space photography, which he accentuates using ink and collage, hence the series title ‘Flos Universi’ (latin for Flowers of the Universe).
